Google Changes Gemini Access: What Are Users Really Paying For?

AI Wallet

Google’s Gemini subscriptions offer different levels of usage and features, but its current official documentation does not confirm that free users have lost manual Flash and Pro selection or that AI Plus users cannot select Pro. Google lists Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro access for Free, Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra. Paid plans instead offer higher usage limits: AI Plus has twice the standard limit, AI Pro has four times the standard limit, and AI Ultra has five or twenty times the AI Pro limit depending on the subscription. A model being available is not the same as unlimited access, and Google warns that availability and limits can change.

Gemini Model Access by SubscriptionOfficially documented model availability and usage limits for personal Google Accounts.

Checked against Google’s official help pages on 11 October 2026. Model access is distinct from manual model selection or automatic routing. The cited pages do not confirm the proposed plan-specific manual-selection restrictions.

Personal-account plans only; work and school accounts have separate rules. Availability and usage limits may change, including during testing or high demand.

This change shows why comparing AI subscriptions only by their monthly price can be misleading. Two plans may cost the same as before but offer different levels of access to advanced models. For businesses and individual users, the important question is not only how much they pay, but which models they can use and how often. Tracking these changes can help users decide whether their current subscription still offers good value.
