Using Claude Through Google Can Cost 10% More in Europe

Google has added Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 to its Gemini Enterprise platform. Businesses can now access these models directly through Google, with usage charged separately. However, where the AI processes information can affect the price. Google’s listed EU and US regional processing rates are 10% higher than its global rates. This means businesses need to consider not only which AI model they choose, but also where they use it and which platform provides access.

For companies using AI across different countries, a 10% price difference can become important as usage grows. For example, a business spending $1,000 per month on eligible global token usage could spend approximately $1,100 for the same usage at the regional rates. However, regional processing may be important for companies with specific data-handling requirements. The cheapest option is not always the most suitable one, and regional processing does not automatically guarantee that all business data remains within that region.
